About Me
My name is Avril O’Connor. I am from Long Island, NY. I’m currently a student at SUNY Oneonta. My major is Fashion and Textiles with a concentration in design. I plan on applying to the Fashion Institue of Technology as part of SUNY Oneonta’s Visiting Student Program. I will earn a bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Textiles from SUNY Oneonta and an associate’s degree from FIT in a specialized area of study.
I took many art classes in high school which taught me the principles of design and many skills, including how to use photoshop. In my Computer Integrated Fashion Merchandising class at SUNY Oneonta I was able to strengthen those skills. I taught myself basic sewing skills during high school. I also took two pre-college courses at the Fashion Institute of Technogly. I have been strengthening my sewing and designing skills while at college. I have made many garments in my wardrobe and made my own Jr. prom dress. I pay a lot of attention to detail and use my critical thinking skills when working.
I work part time as a receptionist at Family Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy since the summer of 2022. This job has taught me how to be more confident talking to people, how to handle important responsibilities, and so much more. Being at this job, I’ve learned how to be in a professional setting and can multi-task while making sure I complete the tasks needed.
